It has been a dream of mine for the past thirty years to have a place of rest and relief dedicated to those who serve in full-time ministry.
I have been friends with many pastors and missionaries in my lifetime. In those years, I have seen the burdens they have had to bear as our leaders in the faith and wanted to allow them to be served as they take care of so many others. One of my dearest friends, Rose Phambu, is a missionary to the Congo. She shared with me the heartbreaking story of one of her villagers, Maddi, whom she has helped for many years. When Maddi was a teenager she was taken into the woods and raped by a group of young men, resulting in pregnancy.
Maddi had the baby and was blessed to be married years later and have two more children. Not long ago, her husband passed away and she was left to raise three young children on her own. My friend’s ministry was there to help Maddi navigate the coming years. Seeing the pain and anguish my friend Rose experienced in helping Maddi through these difficult circumstances gave me a picture of the tremendous burdens she carries as a missionary.
This is only one story of the sacrifice of our friends in ministry. When I saw the pain that so many pastors and missionaries experience while tending to others, I felt a life calling to create a place where they could receive complimentary ministry and restoration.
